The Steve Charles Collections at Paris Ceramics bring together made-to-order surfaces and objects shaped by stone, mineral colour, geometry and light. From the Pyrite Quartz Weave Panel to the Celadon Cosmati Mosaic Panel and Rock Crystal Candle Holder, each piece is intended to age gracefully and carry a distinct material story.
Products like the Black Peacock Stone Mosaic, Floral Gemstone Inlay Floor and Harlequin Pyrite Mosaic bridge old-world decorative traditions and contemporary interiors. Steve Charles uses proportion, repetition and natural variation to give pattern architectural presence.
Paris, the Trojan prince born to King Priam, was first raised far from court as a shepherd. Myth eventually cast him as an urbane and persuasive figure, guided by desire and unafraid of consequence. His pursuit of Helen would, after all, help set one of antiquity's greatest conflicts in motion.
Proud of his own Greek heritage, Steve Charles found something both amusing and appropriate in the association. The name Paris Ceramics came to represent a similarly determined search for beauty, integrity and materials with character. Such convictions do not always pass unnoticed. On occasion, they have been known to provoke a little creative warfare of their own.
The collection draws on pietre dure, commesso, Cosmati, Roman mosaics, Persian ornament and Indian stone inlay without becoming historical reproduction. Each reference is reworked through a contemporary eye, allowing old techniques to inform surfaces with clarity, rhythm and restraint.
Pyrite, Quartz, rock crystal, Mother of Pearl, Lapis Lazuli, Jasper and Petrified Wood are selected for natural colour, reflection and internal variation. Their movement belongs to the material itself, then gains structure through precise cutting and hand assembly.
