Terrazzo floors probably originated in North Africa around the late 1800s. Today, they are closely associated with the Mediterranean and can be seen throughout the region, from Spain and Greece to Italy and France.
Probably their greatest single virtue is their hardwearing nature. Handmade from a composition of marble, the pattern and colour run right through the tile to a depth of some 5mm.
Strength, Pattern and Decorative Ease
As terrazzo floor tiles, these surfaces offer a rare balance of strength, pattern and decorative ease. Their appeal lies in the way fragments of marble and stone are held within the body of the tile, creating a surface that feels both graphic and mineral.
Unlike a printed surface or terrazzo-effect porcelain, real terrazzo carries its material character through the tile itself.
Terrazzo Flooring for Different Interiors
For architects, interior designers and private clients, terrazzo is useful because it can move between many design languages. It can feel classical, Mediterranean, mid-century, contemporary or quietly playful depending on the colour, scale of aggregate and surrounding materials.
Used in entrance halls, kitchens, bathrooms, garden rooms, commercial interiors and hospitality spaces, it provides a durable surface with visual movement and depth.
Alhambra, Arcadia, Cafe and Palladio
The Paris Ceramics collection includes designs such as Alhambra, Arcadia, Cafe and Palladio, each offering a different rhythm of colour, pattern and architectural mood.
Some compositions feel restrained and stone-like, while others bring a more decorative quality to the floor.
Marble Terrazzo Tiles with Decorative Character
These terrazzo floor tiles are particularly effective where a project needs durability without visual flatness. They can bring pattern to a room without relying on ornament, and colour without becoming overly decorative.
Their speckled surface can also work well within schemes that include limestone, marble, plaster, timber, painted joinery and metal finishes.
