Antique Bourgogne limestone mosaic is made from stone reclaimed from properties in the Burgundy region of France, an area almost as famous for its stone as for its wine.
This is a very hard stone. Originally produced by splitting the stone into regular shapes rather than by sawing it, it was then finished by hand. The unique patina of the stone derives from the original natural beds in which the limestone formed during the Jurassic period. The stone often contains iron and other oxides, which lend the stone its attractive earth tone colourings.
Antique Bourgogne Mosaic is available in approximately 3 cm x 3 cm tesserae, or small pieces, mesh backed on approximate 30 x 30 cm sheets.
The appeal of Antique Bourgogne limestone mosaic lies in the way it translates the character of a reclaimed French stone floor into a smaller, more detailed format. Each tessera carries subtle variation in tone, edge and surface, allowing the finished mosaic to feel quietly irregular rather than mechanically repeated.
As part of the Antique Reclaimed Stone Flooring collection, this product is closely related to Antique Reclaimed Dalle de Bourgogne, the larger reclaimed Burgundy limestone flagstone.
For a related hand-distressed second cut, see Antique 2nd Face Dalle de Bourgogne.

Antique Bourgogne limestone mosaic is particularly suited to entrance halls, bathrooms, cloakrooms, kitchen details, borders, panels and areas where a smaller scale stone surface is required. Its mesh-backed format helps with installation, while the antique reclaimed finish keeps the visual language rooted in historic material rather than newly manufactured uniformity.
Because this is reclaimed stone, tone, texture and availability should be checked for each project.
