Antique Second Face Dalle de Bourgogne

Second face Dalle de Bourgogne flooring uses the second cut of the original reclaimed Burgundy limestone. We are proud to not only provide a new home for the original time worn surface, we also use the second face, distress it and sculpt it by hand for further applications, often within the same project.

These flagstones are reclaimed from properties in the Burgundy region of France, an area almost as famous for its stone as for its wine. This is a very hard stone. Originally produced by splitting the stone into regular shapes rather than by sawing it, it was then finished by hand. The unique patina of the stone derives from the original natural beds in which the limestone formed during the Jurassic period.

The stone often contains iron and other oxides, which lend the stone its attractive earth tone colourings. Antique Dalle de Bourgogne varies from beiges and warm coppers to medium and dark silvery greys. The flagstones are laid in a truly random fashion. A typical random floor will have reclaimed size pieces that vary. This floor can range in thickness from 2 cm to 3 cm.

Sizes and colours vary to ensure that no two floors are identical. Antique Dalle de Bourgogne Mosaic is also available in approximately 3 x 3 cm tesserae, mesh backed on approximate 30 x 30 cm sheets.

Second Face Dalle de Bourgogne Flooring with Hand-Sculpted Character

The appeal of second face Dalle de Bourgogne flooring lies in its intelligent reuse of a remarkable stone. Rather than allowing the remaining body of the slab to become waste, the second cut is carefully worked, distressed and hand sculpted to recover the spirit of an antique floor while revealing a subtly different inner character of the Burgundy limestone.

As part of the Antique Reclaimed Stone Flooring collection, this product belongs to Paris Ceramics’ wider family of historic French limestone floors.

Reclaimed Burgundy Limestone for Individual Interiors

Second face Dalle de Bourgogne flooring is particularly suited to areas where a floor should feel aged, durable and quietly authoritative. Its random layout, earthy colour variation and hand-finished surface give it warmth without losing architectural structure.
