We are proud to not only provide a new home for the original time worn surface, we also use the second face, also known as the second cut, distress it and sculpt it by hand for further applications.
These flagstones are reclaimed from properties in the Burgundy region of France, an area almost as famous for its stone as for its wine.
This is a very hard stone. Originally produced by splitting the stone into regular shapes rather than by sawing it. It was then finished by hand. The unique patina of the stone derives from the original natural beds in which the limestone formed during the Jurassic period.
The stone often contains iron and other oxides, which lend the stone its attractive earth tone
colourings. Antique Dalle de Bourgogne varies from beiges and warm coppers to medium and dark silvery greys. The flagstones are laid in a truly random fashion. A typical random floor will have reclaimed size pieces that vary. This floor can range in thickness from 2 cm to 3cm (1” to 1¼”).
Sizes and colours vary to ensure that no two floors are identical. Antique Dalle de Bourgogne Mosaic is also available in approximately 3 x 3 cm (1¼” by 1¼”) tesserae (small pieces) mesh backed on approximate 30 x 30 cm (12” x 12”) sheets.
