Terracotta Floors

At Paris Ceramics, we source our terracotta floor tiles from one of Spain’s traditional tile makers. This workshop is the only company left in Europe that fully maintains the tile-making techniques introduced to Spain by the Moors.

The firing process gives Torquemada its colour and patina. The kiln uses three different types of wood, and each one releases a different amount of flame and smoke.

No gas-fired tile can achieve these tones and textures, however handmade it may be. Machine-made products cannot come close.

 

Wood-Fired Colour and Natural Variation

As terracotta floors, these tiles bring warmth, variation and historic character into architectural interiors.

Their appeal lies not only in their colour. It also lies in the way the surface records the hand, the kiln and the firing process.
