Contemporary Double-Sided Limestone Fireplace (#2)

The Contemporary Double-Sided Limestone Fireplace is a freestanding centrepiece formed from pale natural stone and defined by strong, uncluttered geometry. Its open-through format creates a visual connection between adjoining areas, while the substantial chimney breast gives the composition permanence and presence within a large interior.

Contemporary Double-Sided Limestone Fireplace

Large rectangular limestone sections are arranged in a carefully jointed pattern across the chimney breast. The visible coursing brings subtle rhythm to the broad stone surfaces and prevents the minimalist form from appearing severe. Natural tonal variation within the limestone introduces gentle warmth, with cream, ivory and softly muted beige notes changing according to the surrounding light.

The fireplace opening is framed by deep, angled stone returns that draw the eye towards the centre. A restrained band of slightly irregular rectangular panels runs above the opening, giving the otherwise linear design a quiet handcrafted character. The broad projecting mantel shelf continues around the chimney breast, reinforcing the fireplace’s horizontal proportions and creating a clear division between the lower surround and the chimney above.

A Fireplace for Open-Plan Interiors

This Contemporary Double-Sided Limestone Fireplace allows the fire to be experienced from more than one area, making it particularly effective in spacious living rooms, open-plan settings and rooms divided into distinct seating or dining zones. Rather than placing the fireplace against a perimeter wall, the freestanding form allows it to organise the surrounding space and establish a natural gathering point.

Shown against dark timber flooring, the pale limestone provides a calm contrast while retaining the warmth associated with natural materials. Its restrained detailing also leaves room for furniture, artwork and collected objects to carry their own visual character.
