Antique Pink octagonal terracotta tiles with slate keystones are hand-made clay tiles from the Loire Valley, Bordeaux and Provence regions of France. This antique terracotta is up to three hundred years old.
The distinctive octagonal shape and rich colouration have made this a much-loved floor throughout France and now the world. Typically, the tile is reclaimed from country houses, although it is found in a wide range of historic structures.
Antique Pink Octagonal Terracotta is usually found in 15 or 20cm (6” or 8”) tiles, but like all hand-made antique materials, size can vary. The thickness varies around 2.5cm (1¼”). The small dark slate keystones introduce a more formal cabochon rhythm, setting off the warmth of the pink terracotta with a deeper architectural note.
As part of the Antique Reclaimed Terracotta Floor Tiles collection, this floor belongs to the more decorative side of reclaimed French clay flooring. The octagonal terracotta field creates a measured pattern, while the slate keystones punctuate the surface with contrast, giving the floor a composed, almost historic townhouse quality without losing its rustic softness.
These Antique Pink octagonal terracotta tiles are particularly suited to kitchens, entrance halls, garden rooms, bathrooms, boot rooms and country houses where the client wants age, warmth and a more defined geometric layout. The pink, rose, ochre and earthy tones remain gentle, but the cabochon format gives the room additional structure.
