ANTIQUE PARREFEUILLE Parrefeuille tiles were used
throughout southern France and are unusual
in their rectangular, rather than square, shape.
Paris Ceramics selects tiles from a particular
area of Languedoc; they were made by hand
and fired in wood-burning kilns, a practice
which ceased in the nineteenth century. They
were made from local earth, roughly sieved,
giving them varied texture and beautiful pink
and ochre tones. These tiles are still relatively
plentiful, allowing a genuine period character
to be introduced into almost any room at
a very reasonable cost.
